New Backdrop: "Bone"

1/8/2017

Picture
We've got a new backdrop in, and you guys: it's ah-mazing. The colour is called "bone," but don't let the name scare you away! It's light and warm and perfect for setting a bright and airy tone, or letting those darker, richer colours pop.

We've just done our first client session using it and we were not disappointed. The colour theme was blush pink and white, so we wanted to test out something a little bolder while we had it all set up.

Naturally my daughter was a willing model. Okay, maybe I bribed her with an episode or two of Daniel Tiger, but I feel like the means justified the ends in this case. It helps that our little Audball is beginning to actually enjoy hamming it up for the camera -- sometimes. Have you ever heard of "Photographer's Child Syndrome?" Yeah. It's a thing.

Take a look at our test shots below. Can you imagine something similar hanging on your walls at home or at the office? I'd love to help you fill those empty spaces, so reach out to me today!

Emily's Cake Smash Sneak Peek

Yesterday we got to have a ton of fun doing our first Cake Smash session of 2017 and it was so much fun!

For those of you who follow my Instagram account, you may have noticed that I spent Thursday evening tediously hand crafting these gorgeous tissue pom poms just for this session. It may have taken me a few hours to get it all done (I'll blame my exhausted, easily-distracted brain on my two lovely little monsters. Er, I mean "children."), but a glass of pino noir and two-thirds of a box of chocolates later, my pretty pom poms were fluffed and ready to go!
Picture
And boy, was it ever worth it. As always! And even better, Mom and Dad got to take the decorations home with them, perfect for the birthday party they will soon be throwing.

I'm in love with this simple setup for a cake smash. Rather than over-doing it with props, we have the baby front-and-centre as the main focus of the session. We don't want to take any attention away from our super star, who was a dream to work with, as usual. What a natural!
Picture
It's crazy what a difference one year makes, isn't it? I absolutely loved Mom's idea of having little Emily holding a photo of herself on the day of her birth.
Picture
"Hey Mom, good cake!"

Hey Emily, GREAT smile!
Picture
"I might just have ooooone more bite, thanks."

Suuuuure, kid. Just one more. That's what I tell myself, too! Chances are you'll only get to do this once, so go to town!

Hmm, wait. Only once? There's no rule to say we can't also do this as adults. I'd be down for a grown-up cake smash session! Any volunteers? DO IT.
Picture
Great job, Emily! You destroyed that thing! Like a teeny-tiny Godzilla baby mashing up a sugary city of icing rosebuds. Om nom nom!
Picture
And don't forget the clean-up! I know no one wants to put a messy one-year-old back in their carseat all covered in cake crumbs and icing. Because my goodness can you imagine having to clean that?

So at Studio Andronico, we take it to the next level and provide a warm bubble bath at the end of each Cake Smash session! And what bubble bath would be complete without someone blowing even more bubbles across the set?

Yes, that's how we roll.

Once we've gotten some adorable photos of your wonder- and sugar-filled child in their bath, parents can take that opportunity to bathe and dry their child, leaving the rest of the mess to us.

Yung Family Sneak Peek

Yesterday I had the opportunity to photograph a wonderful family I've known for a few years, but very rarely get to see in person.

These days, it's fairly common for new moms to come together via various social media groups. When I was pregnant with my first child, I joined such a group, and Shirley has always been a key player. We went through pregnancy together, labour and delivery, and so far the first three years of our children's lives.
Picture
This mama is the embodiment of kindness and leadership. She's absolutely brimming with positive energy, and you can really see it in her gorgeous smile!
Picture
This little guy's got that "far off gaze of contemplation" look down! Ready to model for magazines, I'd say!
Picture
Though I've been updated with many pictures of him over the years, he was just a wee one-year-old the last time I saw him. It was great to see how much he's grown!

Baby Micah's Newborn Sneak Peek

Those of you who know me are acutely aware of the fact that I don't make many exceptions for people. I don't like messing with my routine! But who can say no to BABIES!? Not this lady.

Not.

This.

Lady.

So I left my dear, sweet husband to feed our kids and put them to bed all on his own so that I could fit in an unheard-of weekday evening newborn session for a client.
Picture
Meet Micah. He's every photographer's dream baby. With his little tummy full of milk, he was happy to be wrapped up with those adorable little feet sticking out. Because who doesn't love baby toes? SERIOUSLY. And look at that HAIR!
Picture
Mom requested this little green wrap, and she had the right idea!
Picture
I'm pretty sure my eyes have turned into little pink hearts. Haven't yours?
Picture
And as if baby Micah wasn't cute enough, his big brother decided (okay, was bribed) to get in on the fun!

Danielle's Fitness Sneak Peek

Yesterday I had the pleasure of working with my oldest friend and one of the most beautiful people I've ever known - both inside and out. She wanted some fitness photos, which is very far outside my comfort zone, but I do love to learn new things, so...
Picture
That was the very first photo I took during the session. Off to a good start!
Picture
STRONG LIKE BULL! Orrrrr, pretty lady?
Picture
"I feel silly!" she says to me.
"YOU'RE A BALLERINA!"
Giggles ensue.
Picture
Just... holy moly.
Picture
I bet I could hold that pose for photos... if they were helium balloons, or maybe cupcakes. Mmm, I'll take two cupcakes, please!
Picture
Breakin' out the hot pink heels!
Picture
More heels!

HOW DOES SHE MAKE THAT LOOK FUN?

Isla Zelda's Sneak Peek

I got a special surprise today: my baby sister and her baby came up with my parents for a visit today! I don't mean to brag (it's not like I'm biased or anything, right? *SNORT*) but my niece is THE CUTEST. People say she looks like Boo from Monster's Inc., but I disagree. She's WAY CUTER!
Picture
I mean, just LOOK at that face! This kid really knows how to rock the camera.
Picture
As soon as I started clicking that shutter button and the lights were flashing, Isla went into ULTRA SUPER MODEL MODE. She was doing poses she'd never done before, flashing mega smiles and looking straight into the camera lens!
Picture
... I wish my own kids were this easy to photograph.

Sneak Peek: Charlotte's Cake Smash

Picture
I was super excited and nervous to do this cake smash session. It was my second time attempting one with a seamless paper backdrop (during my first attempt the poor little guy was just not having it). I wanted it to be PERFECT and was worried (okay, I was a WRECK) thinking this attempt would go similarly to the last one.

My worries were unnecessary - I mean, just look at this adorable little princess! She had a great time!
Picture
I love the colour combination of gold and white against the grey backdrop. It's a great contrast and really pops!
Picture
The tutu and the bow were just so perfect. Then we went ahead and added in four strands of pearls for the actual cake smashing! Little girls with pearls is even sweeter than cake!
Picture
Picture
I love detail shots. Charlotte's mother did a beautiful job with the cake - a giant cupcake! And look at those baby toes!
Picture
Bath time is an essential part of any cake smash session, in my opinion. It gives parents a great opportunity to get their kids clean before stuffing them back into the car for the ride home, PLUS it makes for a great photo opportunity!

...Although I think Charlotte was a little suspicious of those bubbles.
